Club Fair Day Katrina Aid Fundraiser...

The Sociology Club has decided to run a fundraiser for the victims of Hurricane Katrina to go along with the Club Fair in the Campus Quad tomorrow. We will be giving out stickers with donations of $1.00 or more, all proceeds to go to the American Red Cross for the Katrina Relief effort. The stickers will be as pictured to the left here and we hope to raise at least a hundred dollars tomorrow. Then Soc Club members will continue to collect donations in exchange for stickers in classes and around campus for a couple of weeks or until donations stop coming in. The need will obviously be there for a long time to come.

We will also be handing out fliers that discuss some of our other projects. Projects like the community reading project which is a big favorite of club President Gabriela Delamora, the "Know your Sociology Faculty, Meet and Greet Pizza party" we are planning for sometime in the next few weeks, and our club research project which we hope to be able to present to the Pacific Sociological Association this spring at the conference in Universal City.

We will be manning a table on the Quad tomorrow from 9:00am until sometime in the late afternoon; I have volunteered for the 10-11am slot as I have tutor training and class later in the day. There we will carry the message of public sociology to the campus community and try to earn some money for a good cause.

Until next time,

James D.

Welcome to the CSU Stanislaus Sociology Club's NewsBlog

We the gathered Sociology Students of this fine University have come together to promote the study of sociology and the application of that which we learn to improve the lives of the people in our community and our world.

This is just a test post, I and the other mediators will be posting substantive articles regarding the clubs activities in outreach and research to this blog, as well as bulletins intended for Sociology Club Members and other interested parties. This is part of our effort to become more available to the public and our fellow students in the fall of 2005.

More will follow soon.

Thank You,

James D. Dyer
